Sheet thickness missing. An angle not specified. A bend radius left undefined. Every manufacturing engineer knows these. These may look like small details but can lead to costly problems if they slip through review and reach production.
A year and a half ago, Teamit set out to answer a simple but important question: why do errors in technical drawings still make it all the way to production?
That question led to CADSense, an AI-powered solution developed by Teamit to automate the review of technical drawings.
AI reviews drawings like an experienced engineer
CADSense currently analyses 2D PDF drawings and identifies potential design and documentation issues. The solution uses five specialist AI reviewers that focus on different areas of the drawing, including:
- dimensioning
- bending
- material and sheet thickness
- drawing layout
- internal consistency
CADSense can review drawings against standards such as ISO 129 as well as a company’s own design and quality rules.
Identifying an issue is only part of the job. CADSense also evaluates the severity of each finding and explains why something has been flagged and how it can be corrected. This makes the solution a practical support tool for both design and quality teams rather than simply a system that produces a list of possible errors.
Expanding to native CAD formats and design support
Development of CADSense is continuing. The next step is to bring the same intelligence to native CAD formats such as DXF and DWG.
At the same time, the focus is expanding from error detection towards supporting the design process itself. In the future, AI could help prevent issues already while a drawing is being created, instead of identifying them only during a later review stage.
Built around the needs of manufacturing companies
CAD and engineering software has advanced significantly over the years, but the market is dominated by a relatively small number of large vendors. Their product roadmaps do not always adapt easily to the specific requirements of an individual manufacturing company.
With CADSense, Teamit aims to provide a more agile and configurable alternative.
The solution can be adapted to a company’s own design rules and quality criteria, while also learning from user feedback. It is also designed to connect with the PLM, PDM and ERP systems companies already use.
Depending on the customer’s requirements, CADSense can be deployed in the cloud or fully on-premises.
